Measuring Sound Waves

As part of the Science unit on light and sound, our wonderful EAP students are currently carrying out their own investigations into how sound waves travel through different media. They are conducting their own research using materials such as sound meters and different sized paper cups, as well as copper wire, flax, thread and string of varying lengths. As usual, they have been instructed to design their experiment so that it incorporates only one independent variable.

Happy viewing!

Pre-schoolers visit grade 5

Many of our wonderful grade 5 students were able to demonstrate their learning earlier today, when a class of pre-schoolers visited a Science class.

The presence of so many keen and inquisitive minds created a real buzz in the room, as our 5th graders gladly stepped up to the plate and passed on their newly-acquired wisdom about worms to their younger peers.

This short film highlights the excitement generated.

Worm Investigation

In Science lessons, our wonderful EAP students are having fun carrying out various investigations on worms.

Click on the video below to see a small selection of students in Mrs. Walsh’s Science class trying to discover where most of the worms are located in the worm bin.

The contents of the bin were divided up into 6 sections and each section was analyzed by a different group of students.

You can clearly hear the excitement this generated by the audible comments in the film. Happy viewing!

Ancient Civilizations Cultural Cafe

In December 2014, our wonderful EAP students and their classmates all took part in the grade 5 Ancient Civilizations Cultural Cafe.

A small selection of students’ costumes and presentations can be seen by clicking on the link below.

Many thanks to all parents, staff and administrators, who supported our students with their presence and assistance on the day. It was much appreciated.

Trade Show Investigation

As part of their core classes in Science, our wonderful EAP students are currently conducting their own self-directed investigations into products to be advertised at a Trade Show.

By utilizing and transferring their knowledge of the Scientific Method, our students have chosen which products they wish to conduct tests on and compare.

Here is a selection of photographs showing some of our EAP students in action as they carry out their scientific research.

Preparing for a Science Assessment

This week in Science, our EAP students have been continuing their study of observations and inferences. In order to help them prepare for next week’s Science assessment, we have also incorporated this into our work in EAP classes.

Meanwhile in Ms. Walsh’s classroom, some of our EAP students have been lucky enough to engage in a wonderful hands-on experiment with milk, food dye and soap. This clearly enabled them to show their knowledge and understanding, as well as demonstrate how they are now able to transfer their learning to a real-life situation.

Here are some action shots of our talented EAP students at work.
