Our wonderful EAP students are currently having fun doing all kinds of exercises to consolidate their knowledge and understanding of past tense verb forms. This will culminate in a giant game of Kahoot at the start of next week.
Welcome back after the Christmas break. I hope your children all had the chance to recuperate during the past 3 weeks and that they have returned to ISM with renewed energy, ready for the semester of learning that lies ahead.
Below you can access the second semester assessment plan which will form the basis of our learning activities during the coming months.
Many thanks as always for your continued support in enabling your wonderful children to progress and fulfill their ability.
Now that our wonderful ESL students have finished their end of semester WIDA assessments, they have spent their last full length EAP lesson of 2015 enjoying some of the learning activities on brainpopesl.com. The username and password they need to access the site are exactly the same as for brainpop.com.
As always we would encourage our students to make use of this wonderful learning tool at home.
Our wonderful EAP students have now finished working through an aural recital of Kenneth Grahame’s beautiful tale of The Wind in the Willows.
As the culmination of our work on simple, compound and complex sentences, they will shortly begin work on their own personal narrative based on one event from the book as seen through the eyes of one of the main characters – Mole, Badger, Toad or Rat.
This will also give our students the opportunity to showcase some of their writing skills, (such as showing not telling, describing characters’ emotions, the incorporation of a captivating hook, resolution of conflict, etc.), which they have been working on in English core classes with either Mr. Eric or Mr. Nelson.
Hi everyone! My name is Sean Bizley and I’m from the U.K. This is my fifth year at ISM and it feels great to be part of such a thriving and motivated school community. I’m now beginning my 28th year as a language teacher, during which time I have taught three languages in four different countries. I thoroughly enjoy working with such wonderful students at IS Manila and once again, I am very much looking forward to making an active contribution to English, EAP, Science and Social Studies lessons in 2015-16. I enjoy incorporating technology into my teaching, so I hope that my Grade 5 students will benefit from a hands-on learning experience. In addition, I am also involved in ATAC activities, coaching the Midgets B soccer team for the 4th year in succession.
Hello! I am Ken Rafinan. I am currently in my second year working for ISM as the Grade 5 and 6 ESL Teaching Assistant. Every day spent with these students has been a valuable teaching and learning experience for me. I collaborate with Grade 5 teachers to offer additional in-class support to all of our students in ISM’s core classes, as well as in EAP with Mr. Bizley. It is a privilege to be a part of and contribute towards your child’s language journey here at this school.
We are both happily anticipating another productive, enriching, and successful year for all our students. Welcome to Grade 5!
During the previous weeks, our wonderful EAP students have been busy incorporating their newly-acquired knowledge on persuasive strategies into expository texts, each with the aim of convincing people to visit their individual home countries.
The culmination of this project enabled the students to adapt the texts they had written and use their arguments in their very own videos, showcasing orally and visually what their home countries have to offer.
The incredible fruits of their labour can be seen below. Happy viewing!
